mini f-35b stovl model

A miniature F-35B-inspired model with a swivel-hover mechanism that replicates the core idea behind vertical takeoff.

aerospace mechanism design STOVL build

overview

The model is a hands-on study of short takeoff and vertical landing concepts. I wanted to build a physical mechanism that makes a difficult motion easy to see and reason about, something you could watch happen instead of leaving aerospace as an abstract idea in a textbook.

mechanism

The centrepiece is a swivel-hover mechanism designed to redirect thrust for vertical takeoff. Working at model scale forces careful attention to movement, packaging, and the way a single mechanical decision changes the rest of the build.

purpose

I built it for my NTU scholarship application. You can watch the mechanism swivel and see exactly what interests me, instead of reading a list of hobbies that could belong to anyone.

What it taught me

Small mechanisms don't forgive much. I'd get an idea, try it physically, see exactly where it resisted, and revise again until the motion felt right.
